Euan Cumming
Since moving south from Fife in Scotland some 30 years ago, I now live with my wife Suzanne in Nottinghamshire. Suzanne and I have three children who have all grown up, left home and have their own families.
I have a degree in mathematics and I am a chartered engineer and chartered environmentalist. My early working career was in civil engineering in Scotland, primarily on North sea oil platform construction. After the move south my working life developed into surface mining and environmental protection when I became involved in high profile projects in many countries around the world. I retired several years ago.
Some 10 years ago, genetic tests revealed that I carry the Myotonic Dystrophy gene repetition, although I do not have any symptoms. Following this diagnosis I was keen to do what I can to help others with the condition and with more severe symptoms than myself and I believe that my personal and professional qualifications and experiences enable me to provide proper effective support. I am fortunate that I can readily visit the main MDSG office which is within a few miles of my home.
My details are duly registered with the UK Myotonic Dystrophy Registry in Newcastle.
