Our picture shows Jonathan Callender, 17, on the bridge of the world's first purposeb-built vessel for installing offshore wind turbines, the MPI-Resolution (also pictured). Jonathan is receiving a donation of £750 for MDSG from the ship’s captain, Malcolm Ireland-Craig, following the decision of the crew to select MDSG as their chosen charity from the ship’s welfare fund.
It’s no coincidence that Jonathan’s father Ian is ElectroTechnical Officer on board, and when the ship is in a UK port in the north-east, Jonathan gets an opportunity to look around the high-tech vessel. A student at Bamburgh School, Jonathan has been helping to set up a coffee shop for students and lecturers, and has been involved in rock climbing, swimming, canoeing and achieving his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. He is a keen supporter of Newcastle United Football Club, and attends most of their home matches at St James’ s Park.
Well done Jonathan, and our thanks to the crew!
