Dutch Government Money for Myotonic Dystrophy Research...

Prosensa, a Dutch company described as "one of the most promising emerging European biopharmaceutical companies", focuses on research into therapeutics for rare diseases with unmet medical needs. It recently announced €940,000 funding from the Dutch government to support further development of compounds for the treatment of Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 (DM1).

Encouraging news of the willingness of 'big business' to invest in such research comes from the announcement that NEA, a large US venture capital group, has agreed to take a  €23m stake in Prosensa, signalling its willingness to invest "in truly exceptional innovation" in Europe and elsewhere.
